Street Grace is excited to announce that the US Supreme Court has upheld a Texas law that will protect millions of children from accessing pornography.
“Pornography is both a weapon and a gateway—it grooms the vulnerable and conditions the consumer. It fuels the demand that drives human trafficking by normalizing exploitation and numbing the conscience. It is not harmless. It is a pipeline to abuse” said Street Grace President|CEO Bob Rodgers. “We are thrilled with today’s Supreme Court ruling and grateful for the progress it represents.”
Analysis of the 50 most popular pornographic videos (those bought and rented most often) found that 88% of scenes contained physical violence, and 49% contained verbal aggression. (Bridges, Wosnitzer, Scharrer, Sun, and Liberman)
FCS v Paxton upheld a Texas age verification law that requires websites publishing sexually explicit content to verify that visitors are 18. While today’s ruling is specifically about the law in Texas, in the last two years many states have passed similar laws.
“We anticipate that many websites hosting pornographic images to either begin to do meaningful age verification or to pull out of these states all together, as we recently saw when PornHub began blocking their content in France, due to age verification laws,” said Camila Zolfaghari, Vice President of Government Affairs for Street Grace. “This is important both as it protects children from exposure to harmful images, and also because it lays the groundwork for a broader range of laws that would require age verification for other websites and apps that harm children.”
We will continue to work to expand age verification laws across the country to protect children from harms of exposure to pornographic images and part of our mission to eradicate the sexual exploitation of children. Today was a huge step forward in the fight and we will continue to work because Every Child is Priceless.
