Welcome to the Street Grace Academy. We have created a course specifically designed so that concerned citizens – whether faith leader, community leader, or anyone who wants to work against domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST) — can learn about the elements of DMST.
Essentials of DMST, a free overview of domestic minor sex trafficking, will be held on 03/08/15 from 1:00-3:00 PM. Continuing Education, a course which offers participants in depth information on The Victim, The Buyer, and The Perpetrator, will be offered immediately afterwards from 3:30-6:30 PM.

Please note, Essentials of DMST is a prerequisite to Continuing Education.

As GBI Director, Vernon Keenan is responsible for managing a law enforcement agency of 782 employees with a budget of $79.7 million. The GBI is the state investigative agency for Georgia. It is comprised of three divisions:  the Georgia Crime Information Center, the Investigative Division and the State Crime Laboratory.

Vernon Keenan has participated in professional programs in Spain, Israel, China, Germany, Turkey, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Georgia. He serves on several professional working groups at the national level and is a law enforcement lecturer on various public safety issues.

Lobby Day and Safe Harbor Briefing

Join us on Thursday, January 22 as The Temple in Atlanta hosts a lunchtime briefing that will cover DMST Lobby Day 2015 as well as the Safe Harbor legislation we are supporting. 

Street Grace staff will discuss the proposed legislation and the anticipated impact on exploited youth. We will also provide a walkthrough of DMST Lobby Day 2015 where Georgia citizens are empowered to directly influence the legislation that protects exploited children.

Please bring a brown bag lunch with you. The Temple will provide beverages for attendees.

Press Conference & Candlelight Vigil in Support of Safe Harbor Legislation

Senator Renee Unterman, in conjunction with Street Grace, Wellspring Living, youthSpark and Georgia Cares, will hold a press conference and candlelight vigil in support of proposed "safe harbor" legislation for child victims of human trafficking. The legislation aims to address inconsistencies in the prosecution of human trafficking cases at the state level. In addition, the legislation will also offer immunity to minors who are forced into human trafficking, as well as provide medical treatment, counseling, and other assistance programs for victims.

Panelists will include Laura Lederer, JD, former State Department Senior Advisor on Human Trafficking, and Alex Trouteaud, PhD, consultant at ATinsignts and lead researcher on the 2009 Schapiro Group demand study. 

This panel discussion, facilitated by Street Grace CEO, Cheryl DeLuca-Johnson, will shed light on the intersection of Foster Care and DMST, and the vulnerabilities specific to children in the Foster Care system.

We Found Hope 5K Race

Come run through a great park with a challenging course that exemplifies the life of a single parent! Single parents face overwhelming barriers to overcome poverty and become self-sufficient. With the economy being what it is, a college education is crucial and almost required for the low-income single parent family to succeed.  This course will be both downhill and uphill, pavement and trail, and one that will be sure to challenge you just as these parents are challenged! It’s a run / walk event so come out whether it’s your first 5K or you are trying to set that PR!

Proceeds from this event will benefit H.O.P.E, Inc. (Helping Other People be Empowered) which is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving single parents and their families working to obtain a college degree and break the cycle of poverty.
